Frequently Asked questions

About us

  • Potted in Portland is a locally owned, women-run plant business in SE Portland, Oregon. We operate two sides of our business: a brick-and-mortar houseplant and gift shop on SE Clinton St, and a professional plant service that cares for plants in over 70 businesses across the Portland metro area. We are a COBID-certified women-owned business, and we started right here in Portland, out of a garage, in 2020.

  • Yes, 100%. Potted in Portland is locally owned and operated, rooted in the SE Portland community. We are not a franchise, not a national chain, and not a corporate plant service. We are two sisters and a small, carefully chosen team of plant care specialists who genuinely love what we do. We are also a COBID-certified women-owned business.

  • A few things set us apart. First, our team. We hire carefully, our plant technicians aren't just good with plants, they're good with people. Many of our clients form real relationships with their plant care specialist, which is something larger services simply can't replicate. Second, we are design-forward. We treat plants as part of your space's aesthetic, not just as maintenance items. And third, we're local, we know Portland, we care about Portland, and our clients feel that.

Visiting the shop

  • We're at SE 26th and SE Clinton St, one block off Division St in Southeast Portland. We're in the heart of the Clinton Corner neighborhood, surrounded by some of the best locally owned shops and restaurants in the city. Great parking, a slower pace, and a really lovely stretch of SE Portland to explore while you're here.

  • Please check our Google Business Profile or Instagram for current hours, as they may vary around holidays and events. We keep both updated in real time.

  • Yes, Clinton St has good street parking and is far less congested than Division, which makes it a genuinely pleasant stop. We're one block away from Division's restaurants and shops, so you can easily make a trip of it.

Shipping & Returns

  • Pottery and gifts: Can be returned within 2 weeks of purchase with a receipt in original condition.

Plants: All plant sales are final. Plants are living things, and their health after leaving the shop depends on the care environment, we can't accept returns, but we're always happy to help you troubleshoot.

  • Absolutely. Every plant we sell comes with basic care info on the label, but plants can be tricky. You're welcome to call us at (503) 482-8496, stop back into the shop, or reach out on Instagram. We love helping plants thrive and helping people not feel like failures when a plant has a rough week.

Commercial plant service

  • Commercial plant service is a recurring weekly visit from one of our trained plant technicians to water, check, prune, clean, and maintain all plants in your office or commercial space. Each service plan includes guaranteed plant replacements. If a plant isn't thriving, we replace it at no additional cost, so your space always looks its best. We currently care for plants in over 70 businesses across Portland.

  • Our minimum is $200/month for weekly plant care service. The actual cost for your space depends on the number of plants, their variety, the size of the space, access considerations, and the level of design involvement. The best way to get an accurate estimate is a quick consultation, we can do this virtually or in person, whichever works for you.

  • Just reach out! We'll schedule a quick consultation, virtual or on-site, to walk through your space, understand what you're looking for, and put together a service proposal. There's no obligation and no cost to get a quote.

  • Our standard plant service is weekly. Consistent weekly care is the most effective way to keep office plants healthy. It allows us to catch problems early, stay on top of watering schedules, and ensure your space always looks well-tended.

  • Yes, all of our plant service plans include guaranteed plant replacements. If a plant isn't thriving under our care, we'll replace it. Our goal is that your space always looks green and vibrant, not like a triage unit.

  • We can do both. If you're starting fresh, we can source, select, and install plants that are appropriate for your space's light levels and aesthetic. If you already have plants, we can take over their care. We'll assess what you have during the consultation and give you an honest recommendation.

  • We provide plant service throughout the Portland metro area. We currently care for plants in over 70 businesses across the city. If you're unsure whether we serve your location, just reach out, we're happy to discuss.

  • Residential watering service isn't something we typically offer, factors like access, pets, and scheduling make it difficult to do well at scale. That said, we don't want to say no without a conversation. We also offer in-home consultations, which can include repotting, pruning, staking, pest treatment, styling, and plant selection advice.

Interior plantscaping

  • Commercial plant service is a recurring weekly visit from one of our trained plant technicians to water, check, prune, clean, and maintain all plants in your office or commercial space. Each service plan includes guaranteed plant replacements. If a plant isn't thriving, we replace it at no additional cost, so your space always looks its best. We currently care for plants in over 70 businesses across Portland.

  • We start with a quick conversation, on-site, by phone, or virtually over your floor plans. If we're a good fit, we ask for a small deposit (applied toward your purchase) to get started sourcing plants and pottery. That lets us reserve the right plants from our local greenhouse partners and plan properly for your timeline.

  • We specialize in design-forward, manageable interior plant environments, the kind that are beautiful, well-cared-for, and realistic to maintain. We don't do large-scale plant walls with irrigation systems, or installations that require heavy machinery. For most offices, studios, restaurants, and commercial interiors, we're the right team.

  • We love working with designers. We can help you select plant varieties that will thrive in specific light conditions, source pottery, handle delivery, and manage installation. We'll work within your vision suggesting containers that work functionally and aesthetically, and making sure everything is properly set up for easy ongoing care.

Classes, events & community

  • Yes! We offer hands-on classes and DIY workshops, including plant mounts, moss art frames, and floral bars. These are a great way to get into plants with some expert guidance and good company. Check our events calendar or follow us on Instagram to stay up to date, spots tend to fill up.

  • We do and we love them. We host a monthly Wine About It Friday (bring in your plants or just come drink wine), quarterly artist receptions with local makers, seasonal sales, and we participate in the SE Portland street fair each fall. Events are announced on Instagram and via our email list. It's worth signing up so you don't miss them.

  • The best two ways: follow us on Instagram (where we post frequently and it genuinely drives traffic to the store), and join our email list. We send a monthly newsletter with event previews, plant tips, and what's new in the shop. You can sign up in-store or online.
